Active Travel Lead

Overview

In this role you will lead and deliver walking, cycling and micromobility programmes within the Council’s Climate & Transport service. You will translate strategy into visible improvements, building partnerships with TfL, operators and community groups while overseeing budgets and contracts. You’ll mentor officers, drive quality and continuous improvement, and report progress to senior leaders. The role offers the chance to push innovative pilots like micromobility schemes and cargo bikes at scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead programmes to improve streets and remove barriers to active travel
• Plan and deliver improvements such as cycle hubs, parking, and docking stations
• Pilot micromobility schemes and secure cycle parking and cargo bike initiatives
• Engage residents, schools, businesses and community organisations
• Build partnerships with Transport for London, operators and partners
• Use data and insights to prioritise interventions and measure impact
• Communicate progress to Members and senior officers
• Provide professional leadership to junior officers and set delivery and quality standards
• Translate strategy into deliverable schemes and ensure high-quality outcomes

Key requirements

• Substantial experience delivering walking, cycling and micromobility programmes
• Strong programme, budget and contract management skills
• Sound understanding of active travel policy and design standards
• Ability to translate strategy into deliverable schemes
• Excellent stakeholder and communication skills
