Overview

As a Mechanical Design Engineer at AWS, you will lead the design and innovation of mechanical systems for data centers across multiple regions. You collaborate with a global engineering team to deliver resilient, cost‑effective solutions that support world‑class uptime. You will influence design decisions, manage external consultants, and guide projects from concept through construction documentation. Responsibilities

• Lead design activities within the group and coordinate with internal and external teams
• Assess how design decisions affect site layouts and campus planning
• Gather user requirements from internal teams and participate in site selection reviews
• Manage design consultancies for data center design work and ensure timely release
• Control design changes, versions, and configuration management
• Collaborate with local utilities to define site utility requirements
• Define and approve project scopes, RFPs, and RFIs
• Coordinate with AHJs to ensure compliance with codes
• Work with commissioning teams to validate system performance
• Oversee concurrent projects across regions and travel for site reviews
• Review and approve equipment submittals
• Troubleshoot problems, perform RCA/CA for design issues
• Support construction phases with technical guidance and vendor coordination
• Provide leadership and creative solutions within the group and with other teams
• Define critical equipment specifications and approve equipment submittals
• Support turnover from site review through commissioning

Key requirements

• Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
• Experience in data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance
• Experience in industrial or commercial engineering for mission critical facilities
• Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment
