Mechanical Engineer – Product Design

Overview

In this role you will strengthen the Through Life Support team by providing senior mechanical engineering leadership to deliver reliable, manufacturable solutions. You will work with cross-functional teams to drive technical decisions, investigations, and continuous improvement while aligning with project KPIs and budget targets. You’ll influence product design for retrofitability and production efficiency in a regulated aerospace environment. This is a chance to shape long-term maintenance and upgrade strategies within Safran Electrical & Power.

Responsibilities

• Strengthen the TLS team with senior engineering leadership and ensure effective decision-making in QRQC meetings
• Deliver high-quality engineering solutions and documentation in collaboration with OE and MRO teams
• Support production schedules by promptly addressing engineering issues with suppliers and test teams
• Lead engineering investigations with clear analyses and robust resolutions
• Apply design, analysis, and validation tools to meet customer and internal requirements
• Optimize designs for manufacturing, assembly, and cost efficiency using CAE tools as needed
• Lead Root Cause Analysis studies and drive corrective actions for continuous improvement
• Authorise and review engineering documentation across stages and ensure compliance
• Monitor KPIs and engineering budgets, contributing to reporting and financial targets
• Foster continuous improvement and maintain thorough documentation and approvals

Key requirements

• Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field; equivalent professional experience
• Experience in designing complex electromechanical products in highly regulated aerospace sectors
• Experience with rotating machinery and smart motor/generator technologies is desirable
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with hands-on design experience
• Proven ability to define and track performance metrics for design and project delivery
• Excellent written and verbal communication for stakeholders at all levels
• Experience in leading design teams and coordinating design assurance and validation processes
• Solid knowledge of mechanical design principles; track record of innovative, practical solutions
• Organizational and self-management skills with ability to manage tasks to deadlines and budgets
• Knowledge of aerospace design lifecycle (R&T/R&D/NPI); materials and production methods
• CAD (NX, CATIA), PLM (Teamcenter, Windchill), Microsoft Office proficiency
• Ability to perform hand calculations and interpret technical analyses (stress, thermal, bearing)
