Associate Project Manager | Defence (Construction Consultancy)

Overview

As Programme Lead, you will oversee a growing portfolio of defence sector projects from feasibility to handover, acting as the primary client interface. Based in Portsmouth with hybrid options, you will lead multi-project delivery, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and manage commercial performance. You will shape programs across the UK, drive timely and on-budget delivery, and mentor junior staff. This is a strategic role within a growing construction consultancy with defence-focused clients.

Responsibilities

• Lead point of contact for defence clients and build strong relationships
• Manage multiple projects nationwide across all RIBA stages
• Attend site meetings, define scopes, and identify risks
• Prepare comprehensive fee proposals for multidisciplinary services
• Coordinate surveying and design teams to develop tender packages
• Oversee project delivery through completion
• Manage programmes to meet key objectives and milestones
• Own forecasting, cost reporting, and overall commercial performance
• Support and develop junior team members

Key requirements

• MRICS / MCIOB / MAPM preferred
• Degree in construction discipline
• Proven experience managing multiple construction projects and programmes
• Currently in a construction consultancy or client-side PM/Programme Management role
• Defence sector delivery experience preferred
• Proficient knowledge of project management methodologies and processes
• Strong client-facing, stakeholder management and commercial awareness
• Knowledge of JCT and NEC contract forms
