Overview

In this role you lead VAT risk governance across multi‑jurisdictional operations, combining deep VAT expertise with the design and continuous improvement of risk frameworks. You will embed controls, guide assurance activities, and provide actionable insights to senior leadership to mitigate VAT exposure. You collaborate with tax, operations, internal audit, and risk teams to ensure processes are robust, scalable, and compliant with regulatory obligations. This position offers scope to shape governance, adapt to regulatory change, and drive cross‑functional execution with measurable impact.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of VAT risk and assurance frameworks, control methodologies, and procedures
  • Oversee assurance activities, guiding analysts in data collection, control testing, and evaluation of VAT requirements
  • Critically review VAT requirements to identify gaps before rollout
  • Foster cross‑functional collaboration to embed controls into daily operations and align with objectives
  • Challenge operational readiness for new controls, review UAT outcomes, SOPs, and minimum standards
  • Report to senior leadership on VAT risk exposure, assurance findings, and remediation progress with actionable recommendations
  • Maintain a dynamic VAT assurance programme that adapts to regulatory changes and business growth
  • Support integration of VAT risk considerations into regulatory changes, strategic initiatives, and transformations

Key requirements

  • Extensive VAT advisory experience with deep risk management and governance expertise
  • Ability to interpret complex VAT legislation and translate requirements into scalable controls
  • Experience leading multi‑disciplinary teams aligning policy, assurance, and operations
  • Proven track record in multi‑jurisdictional environments and cross‑border VAT risk management
  • Experience in large, matrixed, highly regulated organisations with high‑volume transactions
