Overview

As a Mechanical Engineer in AECOM’s Water Team, you will design mechanical aspects for water and wastewater projects, from site surveys to equipment selection. You’ll contribute across design stages, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and supporting bids to deliver compliant, high-quality solutions. You’ll work with digital design tools to shape innovative infrastructure and enhance project outcomes. This role offers exposure to diverse water projects and the chance to impact communities through sustainable design.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site surveys and liaise with clients, contractors and suppliers
  • Design pumping stations and analyze headloss and pumping performance
  • Specify pumps, screens, grit removal, penstocks and valves; design odour control and plant layouts
  • Prepare technical specifications, datasheets, schedules and P&IDs
  • Engage in all design stages (Feasibility to Construction) and ensure compliance with standards
  • Collaborate with discipline teams across regions to deliver integrated solutions
  • Support bids and client engagement during tender processes
  • Produce client deliverables (calculations, drawings, reports) to relevant standards
  • Contribute to digital design initiatives (BIM, ProjectWise, intelligent P&IDs, in-house tools)
  • Deliver high-quality designs within budgets and schedules

Key requirements

  • Experience in water and wastewater engineering design deliverables with multidisciplinary knowledge
  • BEng or MEng in a related engineering field with water/wastewater treatment exposure
  • Chartered or near-Chartered professional status
  • Experience in the water sector for consultancy
