Senior to Associate Mechanical Engineers – Data Centres (Building Services)

Overview

In this role you will lead and shape mechanical design for data centres within the Mission Critical Facilities team, driving technically challenging projects in Glasgow or Edinburgh. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, provide client guidance on mechanical systems, and ensure designs meet relevant standards. The role spans concept through to delivery, including coordination, feasibility studies, and on-site verification, with a focus on delivering reliable, scalable data centre infrastructure. This is a hands-on, leadership-oriented opportunity at a global engineering firm known for innovation and impactful projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of data centre mechanical systems and equipment
• Produce design development notes and technical specifications
• Coordinate with Architect and Structural engineers and other disciplines
• Produce calculations and tender documentation
• Monitor installation for compliance with specifications and safety codes
• Provide advice to clients on mechanical systems to meet business needs
• Lead feasibility studies and manage resource planning for design programmes
• Mentor and direct others within a cross-disciplinary team
• Complete detailed designs of mission critical facilities and related systems

Key requirements

• Design experience for data centre mechanical systems
• Chartered status (or working towards) with CIBSE or IMechE or equivalent
• UK/EU regulations and design guides knowledge
• Understanding of Uptime Institute Tier Classification
• Experience with RevitMEP and 3D design software
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD
• Ability to work in a team and lead/mentor others
• Experience delivering to timescales and deadlines
• UK Security Check (SC) eligibility
