Senior Health & Safety Adviser

Overview

In this role you will provide proactive health and safety leadership across a large university, guiding senior leaders and professional services to embed best practices. You will influence strategic decisions, shape safety culture, and drive continuous improvement through policy development, training, and auditing. You will lead complex investigations and ensure preventive actions are implemented. Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, proactive health and safety advice and leadership
• Influence senior managers to develop and implement robust health and safety plans
• Contribute to senior leadership groups to integrate health and safety into strategy
• Promote a positive safety culture by influencing behaviours and building capability
• Lead and support complex accident and incident investigations with root cause analysis
• Develop and review policies, procedures and guidance for compliance and improvement
• Lead on audits, inspections and health and safety performance monitoring
• Develop and deliver engaging health and safety training and communications
• Collaborate across the University and with external partners to share best practice

Key requirements

• Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) and NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
• Progressive and passionate about improving health and safety
• Highly engaging with strong communication and presentation skills
• Confident managing complex health and safety issues with pragmatic solutions
• Ambitious, results-driven with focus on continuous improvement
• Ability to build credibility and influence stakeholders at all levels
• Experience in developing and delivering H&S training, investigations, health surveillance programmes and audit activity
