Costs Lawyer/Draftsman

Overview

In this role you prepare Bills of Costs for Detailed/Provisional Assessment and manage cost litigation through the Court. You interact with clients, support fee earners technically, and may train junior team members. You could be involved in advocacy at Court as agreed with the Costs Partner. The role suits someone with costs drafting experience who thrives in a growing national team and values a flexible, inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Bills of Costs for Detailed/Provisional Assessment
• Litigate bills through the Court process
• Provide technical support to fee earners
• Interact with clients and take instructions
• Potentially advocate in Court as required
• Train junior team members
• Adapt to changing priorities

Key requirements

• Experience in-house or with an external supplier of Costs drafting services
• Basic knowledge of legal procedures
• Proven IT systems and time recording experience
• Flexible approach to priorities
• Excellent communication skills and professional telephone manner
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Desirable: ACL qualification or ILEX Part 1 Year 1
• Desirable: experience in one or more legal departments
• Willingness to consider trainee Costs Draftsperson role
