Building Surveyor Required in Chelmsford

Overview

In this Building Surveyor role, you will inspect a large residential portfolio to assess condition, identify defects, and produce detailed reports. You’ll work with a housing association client, prioritise a heavy workload, and coordinate remediation with specialists to bring assets up to standard. You’ll focus on DMC and disrepair cases while ensuring compliance with building codes and safety regulations. This role offers impact through improving living conditions and asset integrity.

Responsibilities

• Survey properties to evaluate condition and determine repair needs
• Identify and assess damp, mould and condensation (DMC) and disrepair
• Plan and prioritise a heavy workload, including remote work
• Investigate materials, construction methods and environmental impact
• Maintain precise records and ensure certification for projects
• Ensure compliance with building regulations and health & safety
• Coordinate external contractors/consultants for remediation projects

Key requirements

• Experience as Building Surveyor in social housing, housing associations or residential property
• Proven ability to conduct surveys, analyze defects, and write reports
• Strong understanding of construction methods and building materials
• Excellent IT skills and experience with Microsoft Office and other IT systems
• Solid knowledge of relevant building regulations and health & safety requirements
• Strong communication skills with clients and professionals
• Knowledge of Landlord and Tenant Act 1985, Environmental Protection Act 1990, Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Act 2018, Social Housing Regulation Act 2023, and HHSRS
