Geotechnical Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead geotechnical engineering activities for residential, commercial, and retail developments in London, developing ground models and designs that ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective solutions. You will manage a team of engineers, coordinate multiple projects, and maintain strong client relationships to secure repeat business. You will apply soil-structure interaction expertise and oversee earthworks, foundation, and ground improvement design, while contributing to proposals and fee bids. This role offers a path to shape projects and mentor a growing team within a dynamic consultancy.

Responsibilities

• Develop ground and conceptual site models from desk studies and investigation data
• Assess engineering geology contributions to design of developments and infrastructure
• Analyse soil and rock behaviour in the London basin
• Oversee earthworks processes and validate related reports
• Demonstrate expertise in soil-structure interaction and foundation design
• Apply value engineering to piling, earthworks, and foundation processes
• Execute temporary and permanent works design for robust outcomes
• Lead, manage and mentor a team of engineers
• Coordinate multiple projects and manage conflicting deadlines
• Understand fee structures, cost management, and budgeting in a consultancy
• Cultivate client relationships and secure repeat business
• Prepare clear proposals and fee bids for new projects

Key requirements

• BSc in Geology, Engineering Geology, or BEng in Civil Engineering
• proven UK civil/geotechnical consultancy experience
• MSc in Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering (beneficial)
• Chartered Geologist or Chartered Engineer (beneficial)
• experience with National Highways CD 622 process, London Underground, Network Rail standards, and temporary works design (beneficial)
