Principal or Associate Civil Engineer

Overview

As a Principal/Associate Civil Engineer, you will lead engineering delivery across a diverse UK portfolio, from concept through construction. You will guide a multidisciplinary team, ensuring quality and technical soundness while managing projects, programmes, and client relationships. You’ll shape civil and infrastructure designs, drainage strategies, and regulatory liaison to deliver practical solutions. Responsibilities

• Lead feasibility studies and technical delivery of civil engineering and infrastructure projects
• Mentor and develop engineers and technicians within the team
• Lead highways, external works, levels, earthworks and site infrastructure design
• Lead drainage strategies and design of SuDS, foul and surface water drainage
• Manage projects from feasibility and planning through detailed design and construction
• Review and approve calculations, drawings, models, specifications and reports
• Coordinate with clients, architects and multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions
• Liaise with LLFAs, water companies, highway authorities and other regulatory bodies
• Manage project programmes, resources, fees and deliverables
• Support fee proposals, project planning and commercial management
• Contribute to growth and development of the Civil Engineering team

Key requirements

• Chartered status, or significant progress towards Chartership
• Strong experience in civil engineering, drainage and infrastructure design within a UK consulting environment
• Experience leading engineers and technicians and managing technical delivery of projects
• Strong knowledge of SuDS, flood risk, drainage design and relevant UK standards and guidance
• Experience in highways, external works, levels, earthworks and site infrastructure design
• Experience using Civil 3D, AutoCAD, InfoDrainage, Causeway Flow or similar software
• Ability to review technical work and provide clear direction to project teams
• Strong communication, coordination and client-facing skills
• Good commercial awareness, including experience managing project programmes, resources and fees
