Deputy Director, External Affairs – APPOINTED

Overview

In this Deputy Director role, you will lead policy, insight and external affairs to shape transport policy impacts for millions of users. You’ll sit at the intersection of policy, communications and public affairs, driving a cohesive external affairs function and contributing to the watchdog’s launch. You will work with cross-functional teams to translate policy into compelling narratives and build credibility with government, regulators, industry and media. This is a high-visibility opportunity to influence public outcomes and public trust during a period of reform and growth.

Responsibilities

• Lead a policy, external affairs and communications division to drive measurable outcomes
• Translate policy positions into clear, external-facing narratives
• Build a strong public affairs capability and increase influence with political, media, and industry stakeholders
• Support the organisation’s growth and the launch of an enhanced transport watchdog
• Ensure insight and evidence underpin all external engagement and positioning

Key requirements

• Senior experience in policy, public affairs, or strategic communications (span both)
• Track record of influencing senior stakeholders across government, regulators or industry
• Strong political awareness and experience in publicly accountable environments
• Proven leadership of teams and ability to deliver through others at scale
• Judgement to navigate high-profile, sensitive issues and balance competing interests
