Civil Section Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead engineering control for civil works within the AMP8 framework with United Utilities. You will support the construction and project delivery team, ensuring accurate setting-out, surveys, and technical verification. You will interpret designs, raise queries, and guide site engineers, graduates, and apprentices. You will work with Temporary Works to define safe, compliant methods. This is an opportunity to shape delivery on major water infrastructure projects and advance your engineering leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead setting-out, surveying, and dimensional control for a area of works
• Interpret designs, identify inconsistencies, and raise technical queries with practical proposals
• Establish primary control points with protection, verification and tolerances
• Oversee as-built surveys, engineering checks, and verification activities
• Provide technical guidance and coaching to Site Engineers, Graduates, and Apprentices
• Collaborate with Temporary Works teams to define and safely execute temporary works requirements

Key requirements

• HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering
• Experience as a Site/Section Engineer on civil/infrastructure projects
• Strong competence in setting-out, surveying, and engineering control
• Understanding of specifications, standards, and construction tolerances
• Proficiency in method statements, risk assessments, and quality documentation
• Knowledge of CDM, construction safety, and site procedures
• CSCS card (appropriate level) and SMSTS/IOSH qualification
• Full UK driving licence
• Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) qualification or progressing towards
• Experience in major projects or Tier 1 contractor environments
• Knowledge of BIM and digital assurance systems
