Controls Engineer

Overview

As a Controls Engineer at Edwards, you will develop control and visualization software aligned with the functional specifications. You will follow established software procedures, review requirements, and contribute to test and release documentation. You work closely with the Lead Controls Engineer and cross-functional teams to plan and track actions, ensuring safe, tested software delivery. This role offers opportunities to shape software release artefacts, manuals, and service instructions while working in a hybrid Bristol-based environment.

Responsibilities

• Write control and visualization software per functional specifications
• Follow software development procedures and create design/test documentation
• Report to the Lead Controls Engineer and collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Understand and use software requirement specifications prepared by others
• Review specifications and provide constructive feedback
• Adhere to safety protocols and risk assessments; contribute to test documents
• Plan daily actions and report progress; contribute to overall project software plans
• Create release and installation documentation; provide technical content for manuals and build notes

Key requirements

• HND (or equivalent) or degree in a relevant technical discipline (Essential)
• 3 years working in controls and software in relevant industries (Desirable)
• PLC programming – ladder logic, structured text, function blocks, data structures (Essential)
• HMI programming using VB.net or other high level languages (Essential)
• Communications protocols – Modbus TCP, EtherCAT (Desirable)
• Administration of software configuration control tools, version numbering, release process and archiving (Essential)
• Understanding of P&ID diagrams and electrical schematics (Essential)
• Good level of spoken and written English
• Occasional customer site visits may be necessary
