Overview

In this role you will manage a varied portfolio of auction-related property matters for private individuals, investors, housing associations, and corporate clients. You will support senior lawyers on high-value transactions within the Commercial Property and Auctions teams, handling complex conveyancing and risk assessment. The position offers exposure to diverse auction scenarios, from residential and commercial sales to repossessions and portfolio transactions. You will work collaboratively to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment and contribute to business development goals.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload of auction-related property matters
  • Handle residential and commercial auction transactions and prepare auction packs
  • Advise clients on risks (title issues, covenants, easements, overage) and complex title matters
  • Respond to pre-auction enquiries and liaise with estate agents, auction houses, surveyors, and clients
  • Oversee post-auction processes (contracts, deposits, registrations) and transaction close
  • Work on freehold and leasehold purchases, including investment properties
  • Advise on repossessions, probate sales, and mortgagee or public body sales
  • Contribute to high value and portfolio auction transactions
  • Liaise with lenders on secured lending matters involving auction properties
  • Support Commercial and Residential Property teams with technical auction-related advice
  • Maintain accurate records in a Case Management System
  • Meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment and stay updated on developments
  • Support departmental objectives and business development initiatives
  • Manage a small team of legal assistants
  • Maintain strict client and firm confidentiality

Key requirements

  • 2-3 years PQE preferred (but not essential)
  • Strong experience in property law with exposure to auction transactions
  • Understanding of the auction process and its legal complexities
  • Experience handling complex conveyancing (unregistered land, adverse possession, tight deadlines)
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload independently
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Strong client-facing, proactive, solution-focused approach
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Case Management Systems and legal technology
  • Ability to support business development and build client relationships
