Human Factors Consultant (All Levels)

Overview

In this role you apply rail human factors and ergonomics to support safe, efficient operations across railway projects. You’ll work with cross‑functional teams to translate user needs into design requirements and assessments for stations, depots, and control rooms. The role combines field observations, workload and task analyses, and concept development to influence design and client outcomes. You’ll contribute to a growing in‑house capability and shape user‑centred solutions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct usability evaluations to support operator performance per Human Factors standards
• Execute Project Ergonomics Surveys including task observation, workload assessment, training needs analysis, and data presentation for design input
• Produce Concepts of Operations and assess access, maintenance, room and workstation design including control rooms
• Assess accessibility and inclusion in designs and elicit ergonomics requirements for project teams
• Collaborate with multi‑discipline project teams and contribute to design activities with client presentations
• Support design and delivery of customer experience strategies, maintenance concepts, and staff training plans

Key requirements

• Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline
• Experience applying ergonomics techniques in the rail industry
• Knowledge of railway industry, infrastructure, and operational roles
• Previous Human Factors experience
• Member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (preferably working towards Chartership)
• Experience in managing and growing a team
