Overview

As Director in EY’s UK Tax cross-border team, you will lead complex UK tax work for high-net-worth clients with US ties, driving technical excellence and client value. You’ll own a portfolio, guide teams, and shape cross-border tax strategies while contributing to growth and risk governance. This role blends technical leadership with client relationship management in a globally connected EY environment. You’ll help clients optimise wealth, structures, and succession, across UK and international considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a portfolio of clients with complex UK tax affairs, ensuring high-quality, timely delivery
  • Serve as UK tax technical lead on engagements, offering practical, objective advice
  • Review and sign off on complex UK tax returns and advisory outputs
  • Identify UK and cross-border tax issues (IHT, trusts, estate and succession planning, international structuring) and coordinate with specialists
  • Drive business development through client relationships and collaboration across EY Tax
  • Take ownership of billing, WIP, recoveries and portfolio profitability
  • Coach and mentor managers and junior staff to support performance and retention
  • Contribute to strategic and operational team management, including resourcing and training
  • Act as a visible EY values advocate, fostering an inclusive, high-performing culture

Key requirements

  • Significant experience at Director (or equivalent) level in professional practice
  • Deep technical expertise in UK private client tax, including signing complex UK returns and advisory work
  • Strong understanding of non-domiciled, residence, and internationally mobile client issues
  • Proven ability to manage senior client relationships with credibility and professionalism
  • Commercial awareness with a track record of converting opportunities into work
  • Experience managing financial performance: billing, recoveries, portfolio profitability
  • Strong leadership ability and commitment to developing high-performing teams
