Senior Fire Engineer

Overview

In this role you join Arup’s fire safety team to deliver evidence-based fire protection solutions for diverse UK projects. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to shape high-impact, safe built environments while advancing fire safety research and in-house tools. You’ll apply UK legislation and design principles to deliver projects on time and on budget, with opportunities to grow within a supportive, values-driven culture. This role combines technical depth with client leadership and cross-team coordination to influence safety outcomes and project success.

Responsibilities

• Deliver fire safety engineering services for clients across sectors
• Lead and participate in client and stakeholder meetings
• Manage project teams and project finances to ensure on-time delivery
• Apply first-principles design approaches and evidence-based methods
• Secure consent for prescriptive and performance-based designs from authorities
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate complex fire safety concepts to non-technical audiences
• Familiarity with RIBA Plan of Work or GRIP design frameworks
• Contribute to the development of in-house digital tools and best practices

Key requirements

• Technical proficiency in fire safety legislation and guidance (UK)
• Ability to deliver evidence-based fire safety solutions on time and budget
• Experience leading client meetings and explaining complex concepts
• Background in fire engineering consultancy or similar environments
• Experience with UK regulatory regimes and design approval processes
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; Chartered Engineer status preferred
