Overview
In this role you will help shape Fortinet’s data-protection platform by building and evolving policy-based detection on endpoints. You will work within the Insight Team to design configurable rules, apply ML techniques to flag anomalies, and refine the infrastructure that executes and manages policies. You’ll collaborate across teams to extend capabilities, including content inspection and data blocking, while contributing to scalable backend systems. This position offers the chance to impact how organizations detect and respond to cybersecurity violations at scale.

Responsibilities
- Design and maintain policies written in Starlark to detect unauthorized or malicious activity on endpoints
- Investigate new detection techniques for emerging cybersecurity violations
- Apply machine learning and statistics to identify anomalies and suspicious behavior
- Develop data identifiers (e.g., regex) and contribute to content extraction infrastructure (C/C++/Swift)
- Enhance the policy execution environment, primarily built in Go
- Manage policy lifecycles in backend systems, including APIs and infrastructure (Go, Protocol Buffers, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch)
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Agent, Platforms, Infrastructure) on extensions, REST APIs, UI improvements, and policy-related features
- Document, review, and ensure quality and maintainability across the development lifecycle
Key requirements
- Degree in Computer Science or closely related field (Bachelor’s or higher)
- Strong programming experience with several years in software engineering
- Experience with Java, C, C++, or similar languages; openness to learning Go
- Familiarity with Python; syntax similar to Starlark
- Interest or background in data science, ML, statistics, or NLP is a plus
