Overview
In this role you support the Innovation Tax team by turning complex financial data into accurate R&D tax relief claims. You work with payroll, ledgers and project costs to prepare claim schedules and robust audit trails. You’ll collaborate with experienced managers to build specialist knowledge in R&D tax incentives and help diverse clients access incentives that support growth. The position combines financial analysis with tax compliance in a client-facing, specialist environment.

Responsibilities
- Collate and analyse client financial information (payroll, ledgers, invoices, project costs)
- Prepare detailed R&D claim schedules for qualifying expenditure
- Reconcile claim calculations with accounting records and tax schedules
- Support apportionment calculations for mixed qualifying/non-qualifying spend
- Document assumptions and provide audit trails for compliance
- Identify anomalies and raise queries with R&D Managers and clients
- Prepare financial inputs for additional information forms and claim reports
- Manage multiple client files and maintain working papers/evidence packs
Key requirements
- Proven experience in finance, accounting, audit, tax, R&D tax support or financial analysis
- Strong Excel capability (reconciliations, pivots, data analysis, working papers)
- Ability to interpret payroll, ledger, invoices and project cost data
- Attention to detail and ability to identify anomalies
- Knowledge of R&D Tax Relief qualifying cost categories or ability to learn quickly
- Strong organisational skills with multiple deadlines
- Understanding of supporting evidence, audit trails and HMRC compliance
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills to explain concepts to non-specialists
