Consultant Psychiatrist – Intensive Service, Swindon

Overview

In this role you will provide clinical leadership in the Intensive Service team of Swindon, delivering rapid crisis assessment and treatment and coordinating step-down or transfer to inpatient care as needed. You will work with a multidisciplinary group to support recovery and discharge, contributing to service improvement and staff development within a forward-thinking NHS trust. Responsibilities

• Provide 24-hour crisis assessment and treatment within the Intensive Service
• Develop treatment plans with patients and carers, aiming to reduce distress and promote recovery
• Coordinate transfers to specialist inpatient care when appropriate and support return to home
• Act as gatekeeper and discharge coordinator for inpatient services
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality care and service improvement

Key requirements

• MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
• MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists (desirable)
• Fully registered with the GMC with licence to practise
• Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months of gaining CCT
• Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
• Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
• CCT in General Adult Psychiatry (desirable)
• Experience of assessing and treating patients in inpatient/community settings

• Leadership and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
• Time management and prioritisation of clinical workload
• Excellent written and oral communication with patients, carers and staff
• Crisis assessment and treatment in adults
• Inpatient and community-based psychiatry experience
