MRICS Cost Consultant (Construction Consultancy) – Education Sector

Overview

In this role you will support education sector projects by leading cost planning, budgeting, forecasting and procurement advisory. You will apply value management at project start and oversee cost plans through to final accounts, while serving as the primary interface with clients and consultants. You’ll identify opportunities to improve cost management procedures and internal processes, contributing to safer, more sustainable project delivery. The position offers the chance to shape outcomes for strategic clients and work within a collaborative, value-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct feasibility studies and advise on procurement strategies and contract selection
• Prepare and present procurement reports
• Apply value management techniques at project outset
• Manage cost planning, budgeting and estimating; own the final cost plan
• Negotiate and settle final accounts
• Interface with client, stakeholders and other consultants across project stages
• Handle contractual frameworks and standard forms of contract
• Identify opportunities to improve cost management procedures, templates and products
• Suggest improvements to internal systems and processes

Key requirements

• Experience in a cost consultancy in a similar role
• JCT contract experience essential; some NEC knowledge
• Cost planning, budgeting and estimating experience
• Knowledge of contract law and contractual frameworks
• Proficiency in contract administration and life cycle costing
• Knowledge of value engineering and best practice
• Awareness of sustainability, social value and carbon considerations in public sector
• Capex vs Opex analysis/advice
• Degree in quantity surveying/cost management or equivalent
• MRICS membership (Essential)
