Overview
As a Cost Engineer, you will lead cost control for projects within a major energy program, ensuring robust cost reporting and data to drive client decisions. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to align budgets, schedules and scope, delivering projects on time and within cost targets. The role focuses on integrating cost data with risk, change, and reporting processes to support governance and performance. Responsibilities
- Tailor cost control approaches to client needs and align with best practice
- Administer cost control systems to track budgets, commitments, expenditures, and forecasts
- Support Integrated Project Team to establish Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB) and change control
- Develop Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS) and align budgets with WBS
- Map cost estimates to WBS and set budgets against Work Packages and Control Accounts
- Adhere to NEC or FIDIC contract processes for cost management and reporting
- Lead production of accruals to reflect Actual Cost of Work Performed (ACWP)
- Support change process with cost information for change notes and forecasts
- Update forecasts to align Estimate To Complete (ETC)
- Coordinate cost capture requirements, PO/WOs alignment, and monitor sub-contract data
- Align Purchase Orders with CBS for Cost Performance Indices visibility
- Validate supply chain data to support accurate forecasting and reporting
- Interact with management on cost control updates in a complex project/programme
- Lead and influence delivery team on cost control processes
- Demonstrate leadership in developing the delivery and cost control capability of the team
Key requirements
- Professional Project Controls experience in Cost Engineering/Control across project lifecycles
- Understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM), progress reporting, forecasting and performance reporting
- Strong communication and leadership abilities; ability to influence, motivate, coach and develop a diverse team
- Ability to obtain BPSS security clearance
- Member of a relevant professional body (e.g., APM, PMI)
- Experience with cost performance reporting and forecasting techniques
- Experience leading Cost Control Assurance activities
- Understanding of how Scheduling, Risk Management, Reporting, Change Control interact with Cost Control
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to make risk-based decisions with incomplete information
- Strong leadership to mobilise and lead by example
- Strong stakeholder management and conflict resolution skills
