Associate Director | Technical Director – Environmental Construction Consultant Delivery Lead

Overview

In this role you help move clients from consent to delivery, leading environmental construction and secondary consents across major infrastructure. You will provide technical leadership, governance, and delivery planning to ensure compliance and smooth contractor interfaces. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to shape future services and build a scalable environmental delivery capability. This position offers exposure to landmark projects like the Great Grid Upgrade and a chance to mentor teams while advancing client-focused outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead growth and shaping of the environmental construction and secondary consents capability with sector leads and account managers
• Oversee scoping and programming of environmental requirements into clear delivery plans
• Act as a focal point for environmental construction delivery across projects and sectors
• Serve as Project Director or senior strategic lead on post-consent/construction commissions
• Advise on discharge of planning conditions and DCO requirements
• Develop and implement environmental compliance processes through design
• Integrate secondary consent activities into project programmes with discipline leads
• Forecast demand, identify resource constraints, and develop capability-building plans
• Mentor and lead junior colleagues to build team resilience
• Promote a safe, inclusive working culture with health and safety focus
• Contribute to business strategy by building a scalable and robust offering

Key requirements

• Experience in pre-construction and construction environmental management and delivery
• Secondary consents and DCO/TCPA implementation experience
• Client-side or consultant-side exposure during pre-construction and construction phases
• Governance, reporting and assurance processes for environmental commitments and consent compliance
• Coordination of secondary permits, licences, and consents across large infrastructure projects
• Strong programme awareness and understanding of dependencies, milestones and risks
• Problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities
• Knowledge of project controls tools and P6 or equivalent
• Excellent written and verbal communication to translate complex requirements
• Leadership in ambiguous or fast-moving delivery environments
• Strong commercial awareness for scoping, proposals, and budgeting
• Mentoring and leadership of junior colleagues
• Chartered status or progress towards chartership (beneficial)
