Geotechnical Engineer

Overview

In this contract role, you will support a major HS2 route package in Birmingham as part of the Geotechnical Construction Phase Support team. You’ll be co-located with the project team, addressing live geotechnical issues and validating design assumptions on site. You will collaborate with contractor and client to ensure CPS delivery, reporting on monitoring data and field observations. This is a hands-on, corridor-scale opportunity to influence geotechnical decisions on a flagship infrastructure program.

Responsibilities

• Review and witness ITPs; advise on witnessing requirements for contractor testing/inspections
• Witness site inspections/testing; maintain auditable site observation and record review
• Provide technical support for Field Change Requests; follow internal assurance for design changes
• Respond to Non-Conformance Reports; coordinate design team support and flag external assurance needs
• Analyze monitoring data; attend monitoring meetings; suggest mitigation for breaches or unexpected trends
• Conduct earthworks and geotechnical data logging; perform slope inspections and formation inspections
• Support Geotechnical Feedback Reports; assist junior staff as needed

Key requirements

• Geotechnical engineering experience in highways/major infrastructure
• Strong understanding of geotechnical design and CPS delivery
• Proficient in geotechnical data interpretation/analysis
• Strong stakeholder communication and problem-solving
• On-site availability in Birmingham 3+ days/week
• Relevant engineering degree (or equivalent)
