Senior Accounts Payable Manager

Overview

In this role, you will lead and elevate a high-volume Accounts Payable function within a complex environment undergoing a large-scale transformation. You’ll steer people, processes, and controls to deliver accurate, timely payments and compliance, while shaping a modern operating model. You’ll collaborate with Finance, Procurement, and operations to drive performance, governance, and continuous improvement. This is a strategic leadership role with a clear impact on cash-flow, supplier relations, and financial integrity.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Accounts Payable function and drive end-to-end operational excellence
• Manage and develop a team of 8, including performance management and succession planning
• Drive transformation and standardisation of AP processes, systems and controls
• Ensure accurate, timely processing of invoices and credit notes for suppliers and internal stakeholders
• Own and maintain expense policy, approval frameworks, spend limits and compliance oversight
• Lead month-end, quarter-end and year-end AP activity with accurate reporting
• Own AP KPIs and SLAs, using data to drive performance and continuous improvement
• Act as escalation point for AP queries and build relationships across Finance, Procurement and operations
• Partner with senior Finance leadership to develop and deliver the AP strategy
• Support finance transformation, system upgrades, projects and wider Finance Operations initiatives
• Ensure disciplined management of payment cycles balancing cash-flow and supplier commitments

• Experience leading teams through change and capability development
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with ability to influence at all levels
• Organised, proactive and solutions-focused approach
• Strong experience of financial controls, audit and compliance requirements
• Strong understanding of ERP and financial systems
• Advanced Excel with financial modelling, data analysis and macros/VBA
• Experience with Power BI or equivalent reporting tools for management information and dashboards
• Experience of system upgrades or implementations would be advantageous
