Principal Fire Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead fire safety engineering work within Arcadis’ Fire Engineering team, supporting design projects across the UK and beyond. You will apply fire safety standards to buildings and rail projects, conduct risk-based assessments, and contribute to proposals and client meetings. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust fire safety solutions and help shape projects from the initial design stage through verification. This is an opportunity to work on high-impact safety-critical schemes in a multidisciplinary, globally active consultancy.

Responsibilities

• Develop Fire Safety Strategy reports
• Perform Means of Escape analyses including evacuation calculations and route assessment
• Interpret and apply British Fire Safety Regulations (AD B, BS9999, BS7974, BS9991, BB100, HTM 05) and rail standards (LUL S1371, RSPG, BS9992)
• Apply risk-based interpretation of fire safety documents and international codes (NFPA 101, NFPA 130)
• Conduct Third Party Review/Design Verification
• Attend internal and external design team meetings with clients
• Support development of Fire Risk Assessment reports for buildings and rail sectors

Key requirements

• Strong experience in fire safety engineering
• Engineering, Architecture, or numerate degree from a recognised university
• Aspire to professional membership (Chartered Engineer preferred)
• Ability to work independently on some tasks and as part of a team
• Ability to prepare proposals and marketing material for Fire Safety capabilities
• CSCS Card desirable
• Ability to obtain Security Clearance desirable
