Environmental Sustainability Officer [Regional Civils/London & Southeast]

Overview

In this role you manage environmental risk and opportunities, lead sustainability planning, ensure compliance with environmental laws and permits, and mentor the team. You’ll validate data, provide technical guidance, and support inspections and incident investigations, contributing to measurable environmental KPIs. You collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed sustainable practices across major civil projects, helping to deliver safe, compliant infrastructure at scale.

Responsibilities

• manage environmental risks and opportunities
• implement sustainability plans
• handle applications for consents, licenses, and permits
• validate and analyse environmental data
• provide technical environmental advice
• conduct planned and unplanned inspections
• deliver environmental guidance and training
• investigate environmental incidents
• report on environmental KPIs
• collaborate with wider team
• mentoring / managing others

Key requirements

• UK Driving Licence required
• Experience in UK flood and coastal works
• Experience in delivering sustainability goals
• CTC security clearance required
• Practical application of ISO 14001 incl. risk and opportunity assessment and environmental controls
• Working knowledge of environmental legislation
• Knowledge of key environmental sustainability data types for measuring performance
• Degree level education preferred
