Senior Software Engineer – Kubernetes Control Plane / Platform as a Service (BPaaS)

Overview

In this role you will help build and scale Bloomberg Platform as a Service (BPaaS) on Kubernetes, designing operators and CRDs to manage workloads across a large, multi-tenant fleet. You will work with a small, collaborative team and contribute to core platform reliability and evolution. The focus is on reliable software that automates fleet-wide operations rather than scripts, with an emphasis on distributed systems and open-source collaboration. You’ll have the opportunity to shape technical direction and tackle hard, novel problems with cross-team partners.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement Kubernetes operators and custom controllers for a large multi-tenant platform
• Write production Go and Python code interacting with the Kubernetes API (client-go, controller-runtime)
• Own features end-to-end from CRD design to rollout
• Reason about distributed systems concerns such as consistency, failure modes, and leader election
• Collaborate with platform and infrastructure teams to integrate with Bloomberg-wide systems
• Improve platform reliability and operability through better abstractions
• Contribute ideas and challenge existing approaches

Key requirements

• Strong programming ability in Go and/or Python
• Experience with Kubernetes internals including operators, controllers, CRDs, admission webhooks
• Understanding of distributed systems fundamentals (consistency, reconciliation, failure handling)
• Curiosity about how things work under the hood and willingness to explore unfamiliar systems
• A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
