Overview
As Principal Electrical Engineer, you will lead electrical design across water projects from feasibility to commissioning. You’ll oversee MCCs, LV distribution, cabling, instrumentation, and PLC/SCADA, ensuring compliant, fit-for-purpose solutions. You’ll mentor graduates and collaborate with clients and cross-functional teams to deliver safe, efficient designs. This role supports the JV’s integrated design-and-build approach to improve water systems and protect communities.

Responsibilities
- Lead the design, planning and execution of electrical engineering on projects
- Work with MCCs, LV distribution, cabling, instrumentation, industrial networks, PLCs and SCADA
- Provide design support and ensure designs meet legislation and standards
- Act as technical checker and conduct reviews across teams
- Coordinate design interfaces with other disciplines and document production
- Engage with clients and project teams to deliver practical, fit-for-purpose solutions
- Supervise and mentor graduates and engineers
- Conduct site reviews to ensure buildability and integration
- Collaborate with commercial, operational and construction teams through design and construction phases
- Develop opportunities for standard designs, sustainable solutions and digital tools
- Maintain broad knowledge of industry standards and regulations
- Influence and challenge client specifications when needed
- Foster a one-team approach with stakeholders to meet aims
- Support post-design activities through construction and beyond
Key requirements
- Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Chartered member of a professional institution (e.g., ICE, IMechE) or equivalent experience
- Experience with water or wastewater projects (infrastructure or non-infrastructure)
- Proven delivery of high-quality outputs in design, quality and safety
- Effective communication with team members and stakeholders
- Methodical problem-solving approach
