In this role you will contribute to the development of next‑gen sensors within Leonardo’s Mechanical Engineering Team. You will deliver compliant mechanical solutions across the full lifecycle, balancing quality, safety and reliability. You’ll work with senior peers to advance design methods and support development builds and tests. The role combines hands‑on engineering with cross‑functional collaboration, underpinned by a commitment to sector-leading, robust solutions. Responsibilities
- Ensure mechanical solutions meet lifecycle requirements including quality, safety and reliability
- Perform detailed mechanical design with numerical calculations and tolerance studies
- Collaborate with senior peers to advance mechanical solutions
- Produce Manufacturing Data Packs per BS8888 with GD&T
- Assist in technical investigations and review mechanical designs to standards
- Hands‑on involvement in development builds and design of experiments
- Support the transition of new product into Development/Production lifecycle
- Contribute to Work Package delivery to meet quality, schedule and cost targets
Key requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar) or defence environment experience
- Mechanical engineering for Electronic/EO products
- Design of systems for harsh environments (shock, vibration, EMC, etc.)
- 3D CAD tools experience (ideally PTC Creo)
- Structured problem solving approach
- Understanding of Structural and Thermal analyses data
- DfX experience (Manufacturing, Assembly, Test, Integration, Sustainability)
- Security clearance: BPSS; NSV/SC possible
