Lead Engineer

Overview

In this role you lead a maintenance team to meet and exceed operational commitments at The Crown Estate. You collaborate with staff, the client, and senior managers to drive proactive, safe, and compliant site operations. You will manage PPM planning, CMMS data integrity, and service levels to deliver high customer satisfaction. This is a hands-on leadership position with a focus on safety culture, operational performance, and stakeholder engagement. You play a pivotal role in shaping reliable, well-governed maintenance services.

Responsibilities

• Lead H&S for sites and engineers on shift
• Act as Authorised Person for HV/LV on site when qualified
• Oversee Permit to Work and RAMS compliance with subcontractors
• Manage subcontractor approvals and safe operations during repairs
• Conduct annual appraisals after BGIS training
• Ensure compliance with KPIs/SLA and maintain accurate PPM data in CMMS (Maximo, Concept)
• Collaborate with Area Contract Manager to sustain high service levels
• Ensure statutory and Code compliance for sites
• Plan and balance PPM schedules and asset registers
• Provide technical support to engineers, helpdesk, and clients
• Investigate major operational incidents and attend callouts
• Promote HS culture and maintain regular team communication
• Produce weekly delivery reports with Area Contract Manager
• Oversee procurement of materials and services and raise quotations
• Ensure 3rd party contract works are completed
• Attend statutory works to provide feedback
• First point of contact for in-hour shift issues and escalations
• Carry out management requests as needed

Key requirements

• Experience in maintenance leadership and team management
• Knowledge of H&S and QA procedures (Permit to Work, LOTO, RAMS)
• Experience with CMMS systems and PPM management
• Strong liaison and stakeholder management
• On-site safety and regulatory compliance experience
• Contract management and reporting
• Ability to plan workloads and manage assets
• Strong problem-solving and incident investigation skills
