Senior Software Engineer – Rock Physics Applications

Overview

In this hands-on Senior Software Engineer role, you design, develop, and modernize high-performance desktop and cloud applications for Rock Physics. You will own technical direction, contribute to architecture, and drive quality through modern practices. You’ll mentor others, collaborate with the Team Lead and Product Owner, and stay ahead of tech trends including AI-assisted development. This position offers impact across legacy migration, cloud adoption, and performance-critical scientific software in a global company.

Responsibilities

• Architect, implement, and maintain desktop and cloud applications using modern engineering practices
• Lead migration of legacy C/C++ codebases to modern languages and UI/UX frameworks
• Adopt AI-powered tools to accelerate delivery and improve code quality
• Collaborate with Team Lead and Product Owner to translate requirements into maintainable solutions
• Mentor junior and mid-level developers through code reviews and pair programming
• Communicate risks, trade-offs, and progress to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Continuously evaluate new languages, frameworks, cloud services, and AI/ML tooling
• Stay hands-on with CI/CD and automated build/deployment pipelines
• Modernize legacy software UX and platform while preserving scientific accuracy and performance
• Foster engineering excellence and a collaborative team culture

Key requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering delivering production-grade applications
• Strong proficiency in C#/.NET and C/C++
• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
• Experience with cloud architecture (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
• Solid fundamentals: OO design, design patterns, testing (unit/integration), Git, code reviews
• Hands-on CI/CD experience
• Experience in modernizing legacy software and UI/UX modernization
• Self-motivated, collaborative, and excellent communication and analytical skills
