Mathematics Innovation Research Associate

Overview

As a Mathematician at the University of Surrey, you will help form and lead a new interdisciplinary research team within the School of Mathematics and Physics. You will collaborate across academia and industry on long- and short-term projects, developing data-centric mathematical modelling techniques. You will showcase leadership through research impact and grant activities, while contributing to a forward-looking, interdisciplinary research culture. This fixed-term role (up to 24 months) is partially funded and offers opportunities to shape emerging collaborations and modelling approaches.

Responsibilities

• Lead the formation of a new interdisciplinary mathematical research team
• Work on long-term and short-term projects with diverse partnerships
• Interface between Mathematics at the Interface, Fundamental Mathematics groups, and external partners
• Learn and implement new modelling techniques for interdisciplinary projects
• Cultivate your mathematical identity across a broad expertise base
• Demonstrate leadership through novel data-centric mathematical modelling in other disciplines
• Engage in collaborative grant capture and impact acceleration

Key requirements

• PhD (or equivalent) in Mathematics or closely related field
• Experience in collaborative interdisciplinary work
• Experience presenting research to diverse stakeholders
• Track record of publishing novel scientific research
• Experience in at least two of: interdisciplinary mathematical modelling, machine learning/quantitative modelling in AI, statistical modelling, numerical analysis and scientific computing
