Senior Quantity Surveyor (Water)

Overview

You will join Arcadis’ Cost & Commercial Management team to deliver cost consultancy for water sector resilience projects. In Reading and London areas, you’ll own cost management across clean and wastewater schemes, guiding post-contract administration and governance. You’ll lead project workstreams, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with clients to optimise value and outcomes. The role supports protecting natural resources while enabling sustainable infrastructure and growth. Hybrid working with travel to client sites is expected, offering a chance to shape major water projects.

Responsibilities

• Own cost management across a range of projects and ensure delivery meets objectives
• Lead post-contract administration of NEC contracts, including change assessment and payments
• Develop and maintain client relationships to support satisfaction and new business opportunities
• Monitor cost variance, cash flow, and compliance with governance and budgets
• Collaborate with client and commercial teams on KPIs, value engineering, and programme performance
• Provide risk and value management advice and lead related meetings
• Analyse data to identify trends and inform cost/decision-making
• Mentor and, where needed, lead junior staff on projects
• Ensure final accounts are audited, negotiated, and agreed

Key requirements

• Strong knowledge of construction processes and cost/commercial management in a consultancy setting
• Experience with NEC Contracts
• Ability to manage projects typically ranging between 5m and 40m and support junior staff
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with stakeholder influence
• Knowledge of procurement routes, value management and value engineering
• Mentoring and leadership capabilities
• Ability to manage a project from inception to completion
• Ideally degree qualified in a relevant subject
• Ideally MRICS or working towards chartership
