Fire Surveyor

Overview

In this Fire Surveyor role, you support Jensen Hughes’ fire engineering and surveying team across the UK. You perform on-site fire inspections during construction and operation, plus external wall surveys and fire stopping assessments to deliver high-quality reports. You contribute to fire safety disciplines by verifying installations and advising on compliance. The position blends field surveys with client-facing oversight, backed by a strong safety and risk-management mission.

Responsibilities

• Conduct active and passive fire protection surveys and produce technical reports
• Assess compliance with key British Fire Safety standards (e.g., ADB, BS9999, BS9991, BS7974)
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of passive fire protection through industry updates
• Perform external façade assessments and PAS 9980/EWS1-related surveys
• Support quality assurance and validation processes
• Carry out Fire Risk Assessments
• Oversee third-party fire stopping and compartmentation installations on-site
• Communicate with product manufacturers regarding tested details and evidence
• Carry out visual fire door inspections and identify non-conformities per BS8214
• Manage your client portfolio and exceed expectations
• Share industry guidance with the wider team for continuous improvement
• Travel to client sites for surveys and meetings

Key requirements

• Degree in Building Surveying, Fire Engineering, Fire Safety Management or similar
• Understanding of fire safety design for different building types
• Experience surveying diverse buildings (high-rise, office, retail, storage, historic)
• Experience with fire compartmentation surveys and advising contractors
• Ability to write technical reports
• Ability to work independently and manage workload
• Knowledge of Fire Risk Assessment processes (desirable)
• Knowledge of construction methods, fire performance of external wall materials and cavity barriers
• Knowledge of internal passive fire protection products and testing regimes
• Experience managing/advising contractors on-site
• Full UK driving licence
