Mechanical Design Engineer

Overview

As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will own the mechanical design of bespoke machinery and automation systems, taking concepts through to manufacture, testing and installation. You will lead R&D and prototyping to shape new machines while working on real-world builds in a hands-on environment. The role blends desk-based design with shop-floor collaboration to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions. You’ll join a respected engineering team that values innovation and practical problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Design bespoke machinery from concept through to manufacture
• Produce 3D models, assemblies and detailed drawings using Autodesk Inventor
• Lead R&D, prototyping and new machine development
• Design sheet metal and stainless-steel fabricated components
• Ensure designs are practical, efficient and manufacturable
• Support machine build, test, installation and commissioning phases
• Contribute ideas to improve machine performance, build quality and efficiency

Key requirements

• Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent qualifications
• At least 3 years’ experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer in machinery manufacturing
• Background designing bespoke machinery, conveyors or handling equipment
• Strong experience using Autodesk Inventor and Vault
• Experience managing designs through full project lifecycle from concept to manufacture and installation
• Experience designing with stainless steel
• Good understanding of manufacturing processes and materials
• Experience with sheet metal design
