Associate Fire Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead delivery of performance-based fire strategies for diverse, complex buildings and coordinate with cross-disciplinary teams. You will shape technical direction, oversee modelling and compliance, and guide projects from concept to handover. You’ll mentor junior staff and support growth of the fire engineering service across the UK. This role offers hands-on leadership on major bids and collaborative work in a global, values-driven firm.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of performance-based and code-compliant fire strategies across healthcare, education, commercial, residential, life sciences and regeneration projects
• Provide authoritative guidance through all project stages from concept to handover
• Oversee fire and smoke modelling (CFD), evacuation modelling and smoke control strategies with internal specialists
• Ensure design solutions meet regulations, standards and Stantec quality processes (ADB, BS 9991, BS 9999, NFPA, EN)
• Act as Technical Lead on major bids and complex multi-disciplinary schemes
• Build strong client relationships, lead meetings and workshops, and provide commercially aware advice
• Champion fire-safety integration across Architecture, MEP, Structural, Transport, Environmental and Project Management teams
• Contribute to growth of the Fire Engineering service across the UK and support bid writing and strategic pursuits
• Mentor Fire Engineers and assist career development toward IFE/CEng status; promote technical excellence and knowledge-sharing
• Lead internal initiatives and contribute to thought leadership within Stantec’s Fire Engineering community

Key requirements

• Extensive experience producing fire strategies for complex buildings
• Proficient in FDS, PyroSim, Pathfinder or similar modelling tools
• Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical matters to clients
• Experience in a consultancy environment on multidisciplinary projects
• Proactive, collaborative mindset aligned to company values
• Degree in Fire Engineering or related discipline; Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards with IFE or equivalent
