Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult Community, C&E Centre

In this Consultant role, you will provide senior clinical input for secondary mental health care within the Chelmsford West community, leading a multidisciplinary team and collaborating with primary care networks. You’ll bridge community and inpatient settings, ensuring timely, evidence-based assessments and treatments. You’ll contribute to service development, support PCNs, and drive 7-day-a-week care within a transforming, partnership-focused model. Responsibilities

• Provide consultant input and responsible clinician duties for community patients
• Deliver high-quality mental health assessments and evidence-based treatments aligned with Trust policies
• Establish a reliable work schedule with the team and be available during work hours
• Collaborate with colleagues across community and inpatient settings for timely care and transfers
• Maintain administration and documentation in the Trust electronic patient record system
• Liaise with primary care services about patients’ physical, mental health and social care needs
• Coordinate further support and management between services as needs dictate

Key requirements

• MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
• GMC registration with licence to practice at appointment time
• On the Specialist Register (General Adult) or within 6 months of eligibility
• Appropriate involvement in clinical governance (Approved clinician status or readiness to obtain)
• Driving licence or valid alternative evidence

• Excellent oral and written communication
• Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
• Team-oriented and collaborative working
• Experience in community psychiatry and MDT collaboration
• Proficiency with electronic patient record systems
• Clinical leadership in a multidisciplinary setting
