Senior Development Manager (Commercial Real Estate)

Overview

As Senior Development Manager, you will support the Development Director in delivering a wide international portfolio of retail and industrial projects. You’ll lead design team appointments, planning approvals, and end‑to‑end delivery while coordinating with multiple internal teams and external stakeholders. This role drives development feasibility, procurement, and regulatory compliance within a growing European footprint. You’ll help shape a new capability in a fast‑growing business and play a key part in capital project delivery.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver capital expenditure projects across the international portfolio, reporting progress, risks, and performance to the Development Director
• Collaborate with US Construction and Procurement Team on CapEx, including maintenance, reporting, and drawdowns
• Coordinate with Property Management on maintenance and CapEx initiatives
• Lead pre-contract activities including planning and procurement
• Support CDM, Health & Safety, and regulatory approvals for international construction
• Agree consultant teams and manage cross-portfolio coordination
• Ensure optimal procurement methods and contract forms for efficient delivery
• Visit assets regularly across UK and Ireland
• Work with Asset Management on feasibility opportunities and development appraisals
• Develop client briefs and ensure works meet agreed outcomes
• Maintain reporting with multiple consultant teams; assist with invoices and finance coordination
• Engage with internal departments to align budgeting, reporting, and risk management
• Present to Investment Committee and coordinate with Legal and Sustainability teams
• Engage third parties, tenants, developers, brokers; negotiate leases and development agreements
• Manage government and planning authority negotiations and approvals

Key requirements

• 8–10+ years of commercial real estate development experience or equivalent
• Experience leading consultant and project teams across multiple projects
• Delivery of capital projects in the UK and Europe (consultancy or client side)
• Strong knowledge of JCT & SBC contract forms and ability to guide contract selection
• Experience negotiating planning agreements and leases; landlord shell specifications
• MRICS Chartered Surveyor
• Strong analytical, financial analysis and IT skills (Excel, Word)
• Excellent professional communication and relationship‑building skills
• Strong problem‑solving, risk assessment, and decision‑making abilities
• Willingness to travel and visit assets in the UK/Ireland
