M&E Lead Engineer

Overview

As M&E Lead Engineer you lead a multi-disciplinary team of mechanical and electrical engineers to deliver planned and reactive maintenance, ensuring statutory compliance and client satisfaction. You partner with the helpdesk to allocate work, review contractor performance, and manage quotes and trackers for operational efficiency. The role blends leadership with hands-on problem solving, stepping in during critical issues when needed. You will help drive compliant, cost-effective delivery for clients and support reporting and risk mitigation.

Responsibilities

• Manage a diverse team of engineers, assigning tasks, monitoring performance and workload balance
• Lead regular briefings to align priorities and uphold service standards
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers
• Collaborate with the helpdesk to evaluate PPM and reactive requests and allocate internally or to contractors
• Benchmark and review contractor quotes for cost-effectiveness and quality
• Prepare and track detailed quotes for additional works and upgrades
• Review contractor compliance certificates and ensure accurate filing for audits
• Maintain and update compliance trackers for PPM, reactive works and deadlines
• Support monthly business reporting with task analysis and risk highlights
• Provide hands-on technical involvement during emergencies or when required
• Identify process improvements to reduce contractor reliance and improve efficiency
• Ensure safety and proper documentation for all hands-on tasks

Key requirements

• Qualified Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineer (e.g., NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent)
• Experience managing engineers in facilities management or maintenance
• Strong understanding of PPM, reactive works and statutory compliance (e.g., F-Gas, electrical safety)
• Proficiency in data analysis, quotes preparation and tracking/reporting tools
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with helpdesk, contractors and clients
