Senior Engineer (Network)

Overview

As Senior Network Engineer at QinetiQ Farnborough, you will lead the shift from manual to automated network operations, shaping an automation-driven network estate. You will work with engineers and architects to design scalable automation across LAN, WAN, and datacentre environments, driving efficiency and reliability. This role combines hands-on scripting with strategic roadmaps, contributing to mission-critical defence tech. Responsibilities

• Lead automation transformation of network operations and define the automation roadmap
• Design and implement network automation solutions across LAN, WAN and datacentre
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using Python, Ansible and Terraform
• Integrate and optimise centralised network management platforms (e.g. Cisco Catalyst Center)
• Improve provisioning, configuration management and monitoring through automation
• Collaborate across teams and mentor engineers, promoting knowledge sharing and cross-training

Key requirements

• Strong experience in enterprise network automation (non-cloud)
• Led or contributed to automation transformation initiatives
• Hands-on scripting with Python, Ansible and Terraform
• Experience with centralised network management/orchestration tools (e.g. Cisco Catalyst Center)
• Solid understanding of core networking (routing, switching, security) at scale
• Experience building reusable automation frameworks/templates
• CCNP or equivalent experience
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
