Associate Director Mechanical Engineering – Water Sector

Overview

In this role, you will lead and direct mechanical design efforts within the water sector, guiding cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑quality designs on time and to budget. You’ll shape briefs, scopes of work and input into bids, while promoting best practice and QA standards. You’ll work with teams in the UK and abroad to provide integrated solutions and grow the mechanical engineering capability of the practice. This is a level‑up role that combines technical leadership with strategic project delivery in a collaborative, merit‑driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Own and direct technical design teams to high quality levels and compliance with standards
• Define briefs, scopes of work and contribute to bid proposals
• Manage project time and budgets to meet milestones
• Collaborate with UK and overseas teams to deliver integrated design solutions
• Set quality assurance standards in design
• Grow, develop and manage mechanical engineering capability within the practice

Key requirements

• Chartered or Fellow Mechanical Engineer
• Relevant Engineering degree or equivalent
• Significant experience in Mechanical Engineering within the Water Sector
• Experience in owning design delivery, including multidisciplinary design
• Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical equipment (pumps, blowers, screens, chemical dosing plant) and UK design standards and practices
