Cost Consultant – Energy

Overview

As a Cost Consultant, you will deliver commercial and cost management throughout the project lifecycle for major energy infrastructure programs. You will work with project managers and clients to enable informed decisions and successful outcomes, handling procurement, cost planning, and commercial risk across complex projects. You’ll provide clear commercial insight and cost reporting to project teams while maintaining strong client relationships. This role offers involvement in shaping UK energy infrastructure through collaboration with multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic office environment.

Responsibilities

• lead cost planning, estimating and cost management across projects
• support procurement activities, tender processes and contract administration
• produce feasibility studies and advise on procurement strategies
• manage cost reporting and provide commercial insight to clients and project teams
• identify and manage commercial risk and advise delivery teams
• maintain stakeholder, contractor and consultant relationships
• coordinate contractual frameworks and subcontract arrangements
• ensure cost variances are assessed and design changes reviewed
• work independently while contributing to wider project and commercial teams

Key requirements

• experience in quantity surveying, cost consultancy or commercial management within construction or infrastructure
• cost planning, estimating, cost control and commercial management experience
• understanding of construction contracts and contractual frameworks
• experience supporting procurement activities, tender processes and contract administration
• ability to assess design changes, manage cost variances, review valuations and cost reporting
• experience identifying and managing commercial risk and advising delivery teams
• strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• ability to work independently within a team
• degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline
• knowledge of NEC contracts (Options A, C and E)
• familiarity with CESMM4 and MMHW measurement methods
• desirable: energy sector or civil engineering experience
• working towards or membership of RICS or equivalent professional body
