Senior or Principal RF Engineer

Overview

As a Senior RF/Microwave Engineer at Leonardo in Edinburgh, you will develop and optimize RF systems for next‑gen surveillance radar. You’ll lead applied research and provide RF architecture input, while collaborating across a cross‑functional hardware, systems, and software team to deliver robust RF PCB assemblies. You will guide junior engineers, drive design reviews, and ensure manufacturing readiness, contributing to cutting‑edge defence technology.

Responsibilities

• Lead research work-packages and feasibility studies; document findings and propose RF architecture for digital antenna concepts
• Collaborate with Antenna Design Authority, Receiver Design Authority, and Hardware leads to provide RF hardware support to cross‑functional teams
• Own a system or RF PCB block; design robust, well-documented products under configuration management and report progress
• Supervise junior engineers within the RF assemblies domain and ensure successful design reviews
• Prepare manufacturing data packs and support sub-contracts; interface with manufacturing
• Plan and execute design reviews and ensure their completion

Key requirements

• BSc/BEng/MEng/MSc/PhD in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or related science (Physics)
• 5+ years of RF circuit design and analysis experience
• Strong knowledge of microwave techniques and electromagnetic theory
• Proficiency with RF analysis/simulation and schematic capture tools such as ADS, AWR, CST
• Security clearance considerations per BPSS/NSV requirements
