As Principal Structural Engineer, you will lead the design and delivery of diverse structural projects while guiding junior engineers and contributing to the firm’s growth in a design-led Nottingham practice. You will act as the technical authority, mentor a design team, and manage client relationships to ensure value, quality, and on-time delivery. This role combines hands-on project leadership with strategic input to drive business performance. You’ll shape projects, influence the team, and help grow a respected regional business.

Responsibilities

• Lead structural design across residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use projects
• Oversee project delivery from concept to completion
• Review and approve calculations, drawings, and technical reports
• Serve as primary liaison with clients, architects, and contractors
• Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical guidance to engineers and technicians
• Support business development through client engagement and winning new work
• Ensure projects meet programme, budget, and quality targets
• Contribute to strategic decisions within the team and wider business

Key requirements

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) with IStructE or ICE
• Extensive experience in structural design across multiple materials (steel, concrete, timber, masonry)
• Proven track record of leading projects and managing design teams
• Strong knowledge of UK codes and standards
• Experience in client-facing roles and stakeholder management
• Commercial awareness and proactive approach to business development
