Chartered Building Surveyor – Glasgow

Overview

In thisSenior Building Surveyor role you will help grow Gleeds’ regional building surveying capability in Scotland. You’ll work with public and private sector clients across the central belt, delivering surveys, dilapidation and party wall advice, and a range of refurbishment and new-build projects. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor colleagues, and contribute to a growing national offering. This position blends client engagement, technical delivery, and business development in a hybrid setup.

Responsibilities

• Manage building surveying commissions from feasibility to handover, including surveys, dilapidation and party wall advice, refurbishments, repairs, extensions and new builds
• Support business unit directors in delivering objectives
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships in the public and private sectors
• Ensure high-quality delivery and alignment with customer requirements and business procedures
• Plan service delivery and select sub-consultants for commissions
• Provide sound professional advice to clients and project team members
• Ensure independent checks of quantitative/financial information and maintain documentation
• Mentor and coach staff; prepare bids; manage service delivery for profit
• Identify new business opportunities and drive growth across the business unit
• Advise directors promptly on issues impacting projects and professional indemnity insurance
• Present to customers and contribute to post-completion reviews

Key requirements

• MRICS (Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors)
• Sound building surveying experience post MRICS
• Knowledge of construction methods, materials and procurement strategies
• Ability to administer construction contracts as Contracts Administrator and Employers Agent
• Understanding of legislation impacting building contracts
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Strong problem-solving, negotiation, financial and numeracy abilities
• Good ICT skills (MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
