Costs Lawyer/Draftsman

Overview

In this role you support the Costs team within a national law firm, preparing Bills of Costs for Detailed/Provisional Assessment and guiding cost matters through court processes. You will interact with clients, advise and take instructions, and may train junior colleagues. You’ll provide technical support to fee earners and may advocate in court as agreed with the Costs Partner. The role requires collaboration across the business and adaptability to changing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Bills of Costs for Detailed/Provisional Assessment
• Litigate costs through the Court process
• Advocate in Court if required (as agreed with Costs Partner)
• Interact with clients to provide advice and take instructions
• Provide technical support to fee earners
• Potential training of junior team members

Key requirements

• Experience in-house or with external supplier of Costs drafting services (minimum two years)
• Basic knowledge of legal procedures
• Proven experience with IT systems and time recording procedures
• Flexible approach to changing priorities
• Excellent communication skills and professional telephone manner
• Ability to communicate clearly with stakeholders across the business
