Senior Town Planner

Overview

In this role you drive planning projects from initial client engagement to determination, shaping outcomes across residential, commercial, and strategic land developments. You will work within a Kent planning team to deliver high-quality service and commercial results, while mentoring junior staff and collaborating with authorities and stakeholders. Expect exposure to Green Belt and Grey Belt policy and opportunities to influence large-scale developments. This is a client-facing, autonomous position with clear progression and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning projects from inception to determination
• Manage project programmes, budgets, and client relationships
• Prepare and review planning applications, appeals, and supporting documents
• Attend and lead client meetings
• Build and maintain relationships with Local Planning Authorities and consultees
• Provide planning advice across residential, commercial, and strategic development
• Stay up-to-date with planning legislation and Green Belt/ Grey Belt guidance
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to complex projects

Key requirements

• Strong understanding of the UK planning system and local government processes
• Minimum of 3 years’ planning experience in consultancy or local authority
• MRTPI qualification or active pursuit of chartered status
• Experience with Green Belt, Grey Belt, residential, or commercial projects
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Confident presenting to clients, stakeholders, and planning officers
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the region
